PUBLIC CHARGING FEATURE

UNDERSTAND PAINPOINTS AND DELIGHTS FOR ROAD AHEAD

In June 2022 Volvo Cars introduced an enhanced Public Charging feature in its app, providing users with convenient access to a wide range of charging networks for electric cars across Europe.

With over 270,000 charging points available, drivers can easily locate nearby stations and pay for charging through a seamless gateway directly within the Volvo Cars app.

This user-friendly interface simplifies the charging experience, eliminating the need for multiple apps and payment systems.

By prioritizing user needs and enhancing accessibility, Volvo Cars aims to empower drivers with a hassle-free charging solution for their fully electric vehicles.

Background:  As the UX designer leading the project, my primary objective was to conduct a research study to understand the diverse needs of our user base and evaluate the effectiveness of the newly implemented feature.

Project Scope and Approach: I took the lead on every part of the project, from collecting data to analyzing it all. I used a survey and help in-depth interviews with our users to get insights. It helped me understand what our costumers really wanted and what was bothering them, especially in different groups.

Findings and Deliverables: In the data analysis, I uncovered key patterns and opportunities for improvement within the Public Charging feature. These insights were compiled into a report and presented to the Mobile Experience team, providing them with valuable guidance for feature enhancement and roadmap development.

Impact and Outcome: The research findings played an important role in shaping the direction of the Public Charging function within the Volvo Cars app. By empathizing with users and understanding their needs, the Mobile Experience team was empowered to refine the feature. The seamless integration of the Plugsurfing platform and Drive API further streamlined the user journey, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Wrap-up: This project highlights how focusing on what users want can make products better and keep people happy. Through research and working together, we made the future charging of our Volvo Cars a whole lot easier. It shows Volvo Cars is serious about giving EV drivers the best tech around.
